Instructions for Score Slitter Insertion into Pneumatic Holders


The only tools required for inserting a score slitter into a pneumatic holder are your hands and a block of wood or rubber to form a firm non-damaging surface.
Step 1. Insert the bearing into the center hole of the score slitter. This should be done using only thumb pressure. If more force is required, the center hole may be too small or you have the wrong bearing. Pneumatic holders generally use one of two different size bearings. The smaller bearing is 19 mm or .748" diameter, and the larger one is 22 mm or .866" diameter. If your operation produces a fair amount of dust, you should choose a sealed bearing.
Step 2. Insert the axle into the center hole of the bearing.
Step 3. Insert the slitter, bearing and axle assembly into the holder with the axle aligned with the slot of the forks and then press the knife against the block of wood or rubber to seat the axle into the forks.
The knife should rotate freely when properly assembled.

The Bias Cutting knife is supplied to rubber companies. Each day hundreds of these knives are made. The knife is very versatile with its three optional treatments, chrome plating, tuff tride coating and teflon coating. Bias cutter carve out the ridge design into the tire on the bias, at an angle. Cutting at the bias capitalizes on the greater strength and flexibility that cut elicits. Depending on the job you need done determines what your knife will look like and what features it will have. The three options include, chrome plating, tuff tride coating and teflon coating. Some say why Teflon? Teflon coating proves helpful because of its non stick surface that doesn't stick to the tire as it slices through the rubber. 90% of  these blades used in the U.S. and Canada are made here at Alcon on top of the exporting to the foreign plants that are American rubber companies. These circular bias cutters are made with M2 High Speed Tool Steel providing long edge life for the teeth.  The knives are offered in 48, 60, 72 and 96 tooth varieties with various bore sizes.
